A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Rome to Dhaka has been canceled due to a technical fault, leaving 262 passengers stranded.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was scheduled to depart from Rome's Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport at 7:20 PM local time on Sunday, August 10. However, just before takeoff, a malfunction in the aircraft's wing flap was detected, grounding the plane.
According to Biman's engineering department, the flight had to be canceled at the last minute because the wing flap was not working properly. The issue could not be resolved immediately, so the aircraft remains grounded at the airport. Necessary spare parts will be sent from Dhaka to complete the repairs.
Biman sources said the pilot discovered the fault during a final inspection before takeoff, after passengers had already boarded. Passengers were informed of the issue immediately.
After a wait of nearly three hours, the passengers and crew were accommodated in a hotel.
ABM Roushan Kabir, General Manager of Public Relations for Biman Bangladesh Airlines, confirmed that the flight was canceled due to a technical issue and that passengers have been provided with hotel accommodations. He noted that the necessary parts to repair the wing flap are being sent from London.
Kabir said the parts are expected to arrive in Rome by Monday evening, Bangladesh time. The plan is to repair the aircraft and fly the passengers back to Bangladesh on the same plane, with no alternative flights being arranged. The passengers and crew will remain in the hotel until the parts arrive and the repairs are finished.
