Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, head of the Election System Reform Commission, announced that two reform commissions have proposed a new structure for the country's legislature: a lower house based on a seat-based system and an upper house based on the Proportional Representation (PR) method.
Majumdar made the remarks during an exchange of views meeting organized by the organization Citizens for Good Governance (Sujan) in Gangni upazila on Friday morning.
While acknowledging that both systems have pros and cons and neither is flawless, Badiul Alam Majumdar emphasized that both are necessary. "I hope a fair and impartial election will be held through a consensus," he stated.
Regarding the election, Badiul Alam expressed optimism, saying, "We are hopeful the boat will reach the shore. We will be able to reach a consensus. A neutral, transparent, and peaceful parliamentary election will be held with everyone's participation. A truly effective democratic system will be established through that election."
Monir Haider, the special assistant to the chief advisor, was present as a special guest at the meeting held in the Gangni Upazila Nirbahi Officer's conference room.
