
A record 12 people have died and 740 new patients have been hospitalized due to dengue in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
This marks the highest number of single-day deaths and cases for the year.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that of the new admissions, 165 were in Barishal, 77 in Chattogram, 147 in Dhaka division (outside the capital), 115 in Dhaka South City, 122 in Dhaka North City, 52 in Khulna, 22 in Mymensingh, 28 in Rajshahi, 3 in Rangpur, and 9 in Sylhet.
So far this year, dengue has caused 179 deaths and infected 41,831 people in Bangladesh. This compares to last year's total of 575 deaths and 101,214 infections.
