
The funeral prayers (Janaza) for the six Bangladeshi soldiers who were martyred in a drone attack by insurgents while serving in the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan have been completed.
The ceremony took place after 9:15 AM on Sunday (December 21) at the Dhaka Cantonment Central Mosque.
Following the prayers, floral wreaths were placed on the coffins of the fallen peacekeepers on behalf of the President and the Chief Adviser.
Subsequently, the heads of the three armed services paid their final respects. After the ceremony, helicopters transported the remains of the six soldiers to their respective home districts for burial.
Prior to the funeral rites, the biographies of the deceased were read aloud, followed by a special prayer seeking eternal peace for their souls.
The Fallen Peacekeepers:
The bodies arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday (December 20) morning via a special Emirates Airlines flight. Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shamim, Chief of General Staff of the Bangladesh Army, officially received the remains at the airport.
The tragedy occurred on December 13, when a separatist armed group launched a drone strike on the Kadugli Logistics Base within the Abyei region of Sudan. Six members of the Bangladesh Army were killed, and nine others were injured in the attack.
The Injured Peacekeepers: The injured include Lieutenant Colonel Khondkar Khalekuzzaman, Sergeant Md. Mostakim Hossain, Corporal Afroza Parvin Iti, Lance Corporal Mohibul Islam, Sainik Md. Mezbaul Kabir, Sainik মোসা. Umme Hani Akter, Sainik Chumki Akter, and Sainik Md. Manajir Ahsan.
