
Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection fined Popular Hospital at Dhanmondi taka 4 lakh 60 thousand as they found cockroaches in the food kept in the hospital canteen and also for keeping date expired medicines.
Dhaka divisional office of National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate conducted the drive in the area from 11 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday.
Dhaka district office Assistant Director Abdul Jabbar Mandal conducted the drive under supervision of Deputy Director of the organization Manzur Mohammad Shahriar. Dhaka divisional office Assistant Directors Fahmina Akter and Jannatul Ferdous accompanied them. The drive was conducted with cooperation from Armed Police Battalion (APBN-1).
After the drive Abdul Jabbar Mandal said, foods were being cooked in a dirty condition at the canteen of Popular Hospital. We have seen hundreds of cockroaches there. The staffs were preparing to cook in the place full of garbage. There were cockroaches on the cakes for the patients. In this way they were preparing foods for the patients. Over allegation of preparing foods in dirty and unhygienic condition the canteen of the hospital was fined three lakh taka and the snacks corner was fined 20 thousand taka.
He also said, besides they kept date expired medicines in the medicine corner and there were some foreign medicines where no price tag was attached. That means those were brought illegally from outside the country. Over these allegations three medicine corners were fined 1 lakh 40 thousand taka.
Abdul Jabbar said, the organization said that the foods were free for the patients but there was sticker written ‘pay first’. The authority could not deliver any answer in this regard.
Besides, in the drive Dominos Pizza at Dhanmondi was fined 50 thousand taka for making foods in unhygienic condition, Yam Tea District was fined 50 thousand taka, Well Pharma was fined 50 thousand taka and Bengali Restaurant was fined 20 thousand taka.
