After expressing anger over not arresting Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman the Appellate Division raised question to Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer saying, why you are not arresting DIG Mizan still now? Is he more powerful than ACC?
The Appellate Division raised the question against DIG Mizan who is under investigation for gaining illegal wealth by ACC.
The Supreme Court Appellate Division made this comment in an appeal hearing against the bail of Hallmark Group chairman Jesmin Islam given by High Court in a case filed by ACC on Sunday. At that time the court rejected the bail of Jesmin. ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam confirmed the matter.
The court said, thousands of crore taka is being taken away, again writ is being made to release the mortgaged asset against the money. Time has come to think about that.
Lawyer Mansurul Haque Chowdhury and Abdul Matin Khasru stood before the court for Jesmin Islam. Khurshid Alam represented the ACC.
In the hearing ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam said, Jesmin Islam embezzled nearly 86 crore taka when she was chairman of Hallmark Group. The High Court granted bail for her as the investigation is not completed, this cannot be a reason of granting bail. At that time the Appellate Division cancelled the bail and ordered Jesmin Islam to surrender before the lower court within four weeks.
Mentionable, Khandaker Enamul Basir was investigation on behalf of ACC about some allegations including gaining illegal wealth against DIG Mizan who was attached to police headquarters. During the ongoing investigation DIG Mizan claimed that ACC officer Basir took 40 lakh taka bribe from him. In this regard DIG Mizan also leaked an audio about that conversation. Besides, there was allegation of concealing the matter of his second marriage and misuse of power against DIG Mizan. There was also allegation of arresting his second wife using his power and sexually harassing a female news presenter and a female reporter against him.
