
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, to ease traffic congestion in the capital concerned all have to play effective role. Illegal transports from outside Dhaka were banned to enter in the metropolitan area.
He said these to the newsmen after holding board meeting of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) at DSCC’s Nagar Bhaban meeting room in the capital on Wednesday.
Obaidul Quader said, from now the board meeting of DTCA will be held in two months interval. Decisions of the meeting will not be implemented- this should not be. Everything will be done to keep the city dwellers free from traffic jam.
He said, to implement the taken decision the committee led by Mayor Sayeed Khokon will continue their work for the next two months. It is not like that they will solve all the problems, they will do their best and following that decision will be taken in the next meeting.
Obaidul Quader said, this committee will identify the illegal transport that are plying in the capital within two months and then will ban those. Besides, hawkers will be evicted to get the footpaths back to the city dwellers.
He also said, if any government agency takes decision and the officials give their effort to implement the decision then that must be implemented. He mentioned use of helmets by the motorcycle riders in this regard.
DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon, Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Jahangir Alam, Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy and concerned high officials were present in the board meeting.
