Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 75th founding anniversary of the party at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
Sheikh Hasina hoisted the national flag and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader hoisted the party flag at 3:42 pm on Sunday. The national anthem was played at the time. Later, they inaugurated the program by releasing balloons and pigeons.
At that time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the leaders and activists present on the stage. Leaders and activists also greeted the Awami League president.
The 75th founding anniversary of the Platinum Jubilee has been titled '75 years with people in struggle, hope, pride and glory.'
The Awami League was founded on June 23, 1949 in the Rose Garden of Dhaka. Every year the Awami League celebrates this day through various programs.

Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Announces 'Martyrdom March' on Thursday
The central coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement have announced a 'Martyrdom March' to honor the victims of violence during their ongoing protests, which began with demands for quota reform in government jobs and culminated in the fall of the Awami League government. The march will also mark the one-month anniversary of the government's collapse.
The event is scheduled for Thursday (September 5) under the banner of the anti-discrimination student movement, starting at 3 PM from Raju Bhaskarya at Dhaka University.
Sarjis Alam, one of the movement's coordinators, made the announcement during a press conference at Dhaka University on Wednesday (September 4), alongside other coordinators such as Hasnat Abdullah and Abu Bakr Majumdar. The press conference aimed to outline the movement’s next steps.
The coordinators urged the families of those martyred in the July and August protests to join the march. The march will proceed from Raju Bhaskarya to the Central Shaheed Minar, passing through Newmarket, Manik Mia Avenue, Karwan Bazar, and Shahbagh.
Abu Bakr Majumdar, another coordinator, emphasized the movement’s commitment to national security and the rule of law, stating that justice for the murders will be pursued through legal channels. He also announced that the movement is forming a team to identify those responsible for the violence, with a vision of reshaping Bangladesh according to the will of the people. The movement aims to reorganize nationwide, focusing on combating extortion and corruption.
Awal Commission resigned
Five commissioners including Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal have resigned from their positions.
CEC announced his resignation at a press conference at 12 noon on Thursday (September 5).
It is also known that the EC members will go to meet the President after the press conference.
The interim government was formed after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5. Since then, there have been demands for the resignation of Kazi Habibul Awal Commission. The members of the Election Commission also think they have to leave their posts in the current situation.

Police to Seek 10-day Remand of Ex-Minister Shajahan
Police will request a court to approve a 10-day remand for former Minister Shajahan Khan for questioning in Motaleb murder case at Dhanmondi police station.
Shajahan was also an Awami League presidium member, arrested in the case from Dhanmondi area early today.
Mohammad Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhanmondi Model Police Station revealed this information on Friday (September 6) afternoon.
He said, that on Thursday (September 4), a teenager named Motaleb was shot dead in Zhigatala bus stand area.
On August 26, Abdul Motin, father of Motaleb, filed the murder case at Dhanmondi Police Station against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 175 others including Shajahan Khan.
According to the OC of Dhanmondi Model Police Station, Shahjahan Khan will be handed over to the court with a 10-day remand application on Friday after showing his arrest in that case.
Ex-Minister Shajahan Khan Placed on 7-day Remand
The court granted a 7-day remand to Awami League presidium member and former minister Shajahan Khan in the case of student murder in the quota reform movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed gave this order on Friday (September 6).
On this day, the accused was brought to the CMM court in Dhaka and requested to be remanded for 10 days for proper investigation of the case. After the hearing, the court granted a 7-day remand.
Earlier, Shajahan Khan was arrested from a residence in the capital's Dhanmondi area on Thursday (September 6) at midnight.
On August 4, a teenager named Abdul Motaleb (14) was shot dead in the student movement at Dhanmondi police station area.
On August 26, Abdul Motin, father of Motaleb, filed the murder case with Dhanmondi Police Station against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 175 others including Shajahan Khan.
In addition, 250 to 300 unidentified people were accused. Shajahan Khan is accused number 23 in this case.

He was the minister and also the president of the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation. So he had absolute dominance in this sector. His forces carried out his orders.
It is alleged that Shajahan Khan's group members have extorted 12 thousand crores in the transport sector from 2009 to 2020. Out of this, over 6 thousand crores have been extorted under his shadow in the last 4 years. After the Covid-19 pandemic, this extortion was given legality by formulating the guidelines regarding 'Organization Management Expenses in Road Transport'.

There are complaints that Shajahan Khan has institutionalized road extortion. Contributions have been collected through 249 labor unions belonging to the Road Transport Workers Federation.
In the past, the non-partisan caretaker government of BNP called for a large-scale movement on other demands, and the road traffic was stopped. Shajahan Khan was also behind it. He was also one of the obstacles to enacting the Road Transport Act by providing strict punishments to ensure road safety.
Meanwhile, according to the information in the election affidavit, the annual income of Shajahan Khan in 2008 was 6 lakh 85 thousand taka. Which in 2024 has become 2 crore 21 lakh taka. During this time his income increased almost 32 times. Transport workers' leader Mohammad Hanif Khokon told the media that there is no provision in the Road Transport Act to raise tolls from the road. However, Shajahan Khan led the reckless extortion in the transport sector.
According to sources, soon after Awami League came to power in 2009, leader Shajahan Khan became irresistible in the transport sector. Until the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, he had a monopoly on the transport sector. Since 2009, various amounts of tolls have been collected on the roads in scattered form.
When the government announced a lockdown during the Corona period, public transport was stopped. Later it was decided to start public transport from June 1, 2020. Due to the strict stance of law and order forces, road toll collection was stopped for 3 months of June, July, and August 2020. At this time, a new method of collecting subscriptions was devised. Guidelines regarding road transport organization operating expenses or service charges are formulated. Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, Road Transport Workers Federation, Bus Truck Owners Association, Truck and Covered Van Owners Association were associated with the formulation of this guideline.
Transport workers leader Mohammad Hanif Khokon said Shajahan Khan was the leader of reckless extortion in the transport sector without any regard for the law. One-fifth of the contributions collected at various terminals and upazila levels went to the name of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation. Everything in this federation is going on at the behest of Shahjahan Khan. From 2009 to 2020, Shahjahan Khan's group members extorted 12 thousand crores from the transport sector.
He also said that Shajahan Khan and his associates have made a huge amount of cash and wealth in the name of family, and relatives with the proceeds of extortion. It has to investigate immediately and seize those illegal assets and deposit them in the state treasury.
