BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed his heartfelt gratitude as a son to the interim government, law enforcement agencies, journalists, and all personnel involved in ensuring that the historic farewell of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was conducted with due dignity.

He shared his message of thanks through a post on his verified Facebook page on Thursday, January 1.

Gratitude to the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement

In the post, Tarique Rahman wrote, "Yesterday, at a moment of profound grief in my life, I was able to bid my mother a final farewell. It was a historic departure, completed with the respect and dignity she deserved from the people of this country. This was made possible by the care, sense of responsibility, and professionalism of many; I thank them all from the bottom of my heart."

He specifically highlighted the role of the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force, noting that their members did more than just maintain order; they demonstrated humanity during a time of mourning, allowing millions to participate in the funeral prayers (Janaza) safely.

Rahman also extended his thanks to the Home Advisor and members of the Police, BGB, Ansar & VDP, RAB, and APBN. "Because of your patience and honesty, millions were able to gather safely, express their grief spontaneously, and return home peacefully," he stated.

Recognition of Intelligence and Government Officials

The BNP leader expressed gratitude to the "often unseen" workers of the DGFI, NSI, and Special Branch, whose vigilance ensured the day remained secure.

He further acknowledged the coordination efforts of the National Security Advisor, the PSO of the Armed Forces Division, the DG of the SSF, and the advisors and staff of various ministries—including Housing and Public Works, Information, Law, Culture, and Religious Affairs.

"I also thank the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Rahman wrote. "Due to their sincere efforts, high-level foreign representatives were able to attend in person to offer condolences, proving the deep respect my mother held even beyond our borders."

Appreciation for the Media and Interim Government

Addressing the press, Tarique Rahman noted the difficulty of covering such a massive gathering. He thanked local and international journalists for their dedication in broadcasting news, photos, and videos of the Janaza and burial to the world despite the challenging conditions.

Finally, he offered a personal note of thanks to Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus and his cabinet. "During this difficult time of national mourning, their personal presence and constant help in maintaining peace and care served as invaluable support for our family," he wrote.

Concluding the message on behalf of his family, he said, "In this time of deep sorrow, the empathy, respect, and responsibility you have shown have touched our hearts. You were the strength that allowed our family and the entire nation to honor my mother’s memory with dignity. Alhamdulillah."
