
The British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cooke, held a high-level meeting with BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday evening (January 17).
The meeting took place around 5:45 PM at the BNP Chairman’s office in Gulshan. Discussions centered on the upcoming national elections and the future of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.
Strengthening Diplomatic Ties
Briefing the press following the meeting, BNP Joint Secretary General and member of the Chairman’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee, Humayun Kabir, shared key takeaways from the discussion.
He stated that High Commissioner Cooke expressed the United Kingdom’s commitment to maintaining developmental and friendly relations should Tarique Rahman become the next Prime Minister.
"During the meeting, Sarah Cooke indicated that the UK wishes to work toward the continued development and friendship of both nations under a potential Tarique Rahman-led government," Kabir said.
Positive Outlook on Election Environment
The British envoy also commented on the current political climate. According to Humayun Kabir, the High Commissioner shared a positive assessment of the prevailing electoral environment in Bangladesh.
