The premier show of 'Sobar Age Hashimukh' (A Smile Above All), the first documentary chronicling the private and media-shy humanitarian efforts of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, was held on Saturday.
The special screening took place on Saturday afternoon (February 7) at the Star Cineplex in SKS Tower, Mohakhali.
Directed by Zubair Babu, the documentary left the audience and distinguished guests visibly moved as it showcased previously unknown charitable initiatives led by the BNP leader.
A Legacy of Silent Service
Speaking as the chief guest, BNP National Standing Committee Member and Central Election Management Committee Chairman Nazrul Islam Khan remarked that Tarique Rahman’s long-standing dedication to the welfare of common people and animals remained unknown to many.
"He has stood by helpless families and neglected animals while staying far from the limelight," Khan said. "Even many of the recipients did not know who was behind the assistance. This documentary is a living testament to that silent humanitarian mission."
Not Politics, But Humanity
Director Zubair Babu emphasized that the film is not a piece of political propaganda. Instead, it tells the story of a sensitive individual behind the busy political facade who has worked quietly to bring smiles to countless faces. He noted that Rahman’s empathy for both humans and animals served as the primary inspiration for the project.
Ismail Zabiullah, Advisor to the BNP Chairman, shared his reaction after the screening, stating that while he came expecting a political context, he discovered a completely different, deeply compassionate side of Tarique Rahman.
Diverse Audience Acclaim
The premiere was attended by a cross-section of society, including political leaders, teachers, journalists, actors, and musicians. Attendees praised the documentary's storytelling and craftsmanship, describing it as an important historical record for future generations.
Speakers expressed hope that through this film, the general public would gain a clearer understanding of Tarique Rahman’s character and his philanthropic spirit.
