In his first press briefing with local and international media since securing an absolute majority, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman delivered a significant message regarding his party's electoral strategy.
Speaking Saturday afternoon (February 14) at the InterContinental Hotel in the capital, Rahman responded to a query from prominent journalist Khaled Muhiuddin regarding "election engineering."
He emphasized that there were no hidden tactics involved; rather, the party's sole political plan was to earn the trust of the general public and bring them to their side—an effort he noted was, "by the grace of Allah, a complete success for the BNP."
A Victory for Democracy
Refusing to frame the landslide win as a personal achievement, the BNP Chairman described the results as a collective triumph for those who value democracy.
"This victory belongs to democracy; it belongs to Bangladesh and to every disenfranchised citizen of this country. As of today, we are truly free," he declared.
Rahman expressed profound relief that, after more than fifteen years, an accountable parliament and government are finally being established through the direct mandate of the people.
He extended his sincere congratulations to the 51 political parties that participated in the election, specifically naming Jamaat-e-Islami, the NCP, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, and Gono Odhikar Parishad.
Rebuilding from the Rubble
Analyzing the current state of the nation, the Chairman noted that the new administration’s journey begins atop the "horrific ruins" left behind by the previous regime. He cited:
Concluding his address, Rahman issued a stern warning to the nation, urging every citizen to remain united to ensure that no "evil forces" can ever re-establish fascism in the country. This unity, he asserted, will serve as the primary strength of a future democratic Bangladesh.
