In his first press conference since securing an absolute majority in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman called upon the nation to unite in building a new, discrimination-free Bangladesh.
Speaking Saturday afternoon (February 14) at the InterContinental Hotel ballroom in the capital, Rahman emphasized that collective strength is the only path forward. "National unity is our primary strength, while division is our ultimate weakness," he stated.
Characterizing the "Sheaf of Paddy's" overwhelming mandate as a victory for democracy, he declared that the time has come to move past political rifts and dedicate all efforts toward state reconstruction.
Election Results and Mandate
According to the latest data from the Election Commission, the BNP has secured a dominant position in the new parliament.
Following this massive success, Tarique Rahman thanked party leaders and activists for maintaining peace and restraint during victory celebrations. He reminded them that they must act as "servants of the people" to honor the trust and aspirations of the voters.
A New Era of Accountability
The Chairman noted that "dissent is the beauty of democracy," but stressed that unity must remain unshakable regarding national interests.
Expressing relief that an accountable government is finally being established through a direct, fair vote after more than 15 years, he extended his sincere gratitude to the Interim Government, the Election Commission, and law enforcement agencies for organizing a free and neutral election.
