2 Dead Bodies Recovered from Oil Tanker Explosion
Two dead bodies were recovered from the explosion of an oil tanker named 'Banglar Jyoti' in Patenga, Chattogram. Apart from this, 1 more person is missing.
Bangladesh Navy's Chattogram Area Commander Masud Iqbal confirmed the matter to the media on Monday (September 30).
He said one of the deceased was identified as Shourabh, the deck cadet of the oil tanker. The body was found hanging on the deck railing of the ship. Another body was recovered but yet to be identified as the body parts were found scattered, he further said.
Abdul Wadud, president of the Seamen's Association of Shipping Corporation, said that cadet Shourabh, foreman Nurul Islam (45), and casual staff Harun were among the missing in this accident. In this case, the other body parts found are supposed to belong to Nurul Islam or Harun.
The explosion took place while the tanker was anchored at Dolphin Jetty No 7 of Chattogram Port around 10:45 am, said Md Omor Faruk, secretary of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA).
On receiving the information, Navy, Coast Guard, and Fire Service personnel quickly reached the spot and brought the fire under control around 12:30 pm. At this time arrangements were made to evacuate the nearby ships safely. However, the cause of the explosion is still unknown.
