6 Platoons of BGB Deployed in Jatrabari-Demra Area
A total of six platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the capital’s Jatrabari-Demra area to maintain law and order following a fierce clash among the students of Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul College and Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College.
Md. Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer at BGB headquarters, confirmed the deployment at 4:00 pm on Monday.
Against the backdrop of the clashes among the students of different colleges in the Jatrabari-Demra area, the BGB personnel were deployed to prevent any untoward situation.
Earlier, in protest against the vandalism at Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul College, students from both institutions declared a "Mega Monday" demonstration. As announced, hundreds of students from both colleges attacked Mollah College around noon. Subsequently, violent clashes erupted between students from the three colleges, with local residents also getting involved.
According to witnesses and sources, today's attack on Mollah College was in retaliation for an attack the previous day. Initially, the attackers faced no resistance, but the situation escalated into a violent confrontation when Mollah college students and local residents chased them. The clashes caused significant traffic disruption on the roads, leading to severe congestion on nearby streets.
