Bus-Ambulance Collision, Fire in Savar: 4 Dead, 7 Injured
A collision between an ambulance and a bus near Savar, close to the capital Dhaka, resulted in a gas cylinder explosion, causing a fire that engulfed the ambulance and two passenger buses. Four people in the ambulance were burned to death, and at least seven bus passengers were injured.
The incident occurred late Thursday night (January 8) in the Police Town area on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, according to Fire Service officer Alauddin.
Police, citing local sources, reported that the collision occurred in the Dhaka-bound lane of the highway, causing the ambulance's gas cylinder to explode and ignite the bus. The fire then spread to another bus behind it.
Fire Service officer Alauddin confirmed that the fire was brought under control around 2:50 AM. The bus passengers managed to evacuate the vehicle, and the injured seven were sent to the hospital. Many of the injured were taken to the hospital by locals. However, the four people in the ambulance died from burns. Their bodies have been recovered and handed over to the police, though their identities have not yet been confirmed.
Savar Highway Police Station in-charge Sawgatul Alam stated that the preliminary information indicates the death of four people in the ambulance, and further details are being investigated.
