An explosion in a bus's gas cylinder during refueling at Greenleaf Filling Station in the Muktiganj area of Lakshmipur municipal town claimed two lives. Three others sustained critical injuries. The injured were initially taken to Sadar Hospital and later transferred to hospitals in Dhaka and Noakhali. Among them, two are in critical condition, according to Dr Zainal Abedin.

The injured include one filling station worker and two CNG drivers, as stated by the station manager, Md Al Amin. Preliminary investigations by the police and fire service suggest the accident occurred due to an expired and substandard gas cylinder. The incident took place early Wednesday at approximately 3:45 am.

According to the filling station staff, fire service, and eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred when a bus from Al Madina Paribahan came for refueling. As the gas was being filled, the cylinder exploded, enveloping the area in smoke and causing panic. The workshop worker Abul Kalam died on the spot. Three others were critically injured. Fire service personnel and police later recovered the deceased worker's body and sent it to the morgue at Sadar Hospital.

The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital, and due to the severity of their injuries, they were later transferred to hospitals in Dhaka and Noakhali.

Lakshmipur Fire Service Station Officer Ranjit Kumar stated that the fire service team rescued the injured and confirmed that the explosion was likely caused by the bus's expired and substandard gas cylinder.

District Commissioner Rajib Kumar Sarkar emphasized that measures will be taken to ensure that unfit vehicles are not allowed on the roads. He also confirmed the possibility that the gas cylinder was expired and substandard. An investigation is currently underway.

It is noteworthy that on October 14, another similar explosion occurred at this gas station when a bus from Meghna Paribahan was refueling. That incident claimed the lives of three people and injured 20 others. This is the second accident at the same filling station within the last two months.
