Those found guilty over Viquarunnisa’s student suicide to be punished: Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said those who will be found guilty behind the suicidal incident of a student of Viquarunnisa Noon School and College will be brought under trial.

He told the journalists after visiting the Viquarunnisa School branch on Bailey Road on Tuesday morning following the incident.

Nahid said, “Educational institutions are not allowed to torture any children either mentally or physically.”

“After the investigation, those, who will be found guilty, will be punished,” he added.

Meanwhile, a three-member probe body was formed on Tuesday to investigate the suicide incident of a class-IX student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College.

The committee led by Professor Mohammad Yusuf, director of Dhaka Regional Education office, has been asked to submit report within three-day.

Deputy Director Shakhawat Hossain of Dhaka Regional Education office and Dhaka district education officer Benzir Ahmed are the two other members of the committee.

Adhriti Odhikari, daughter of Dilip Odhikari, reportedly committed suicide at her Shantinagar residence in the city on Monday.

The suicidal incident took place as teachers allegedly rebuked Adhriti and her father for carrying mobile phone during examination.

Guardians and students staged demonstration demanding punishment of those who are responsible for the incident
