Despite being a holiday, Dhaka continues to rank as one of the most polluted cities in the world. With an air quality index (AQI) score of 277, the city holds the top position, a level classified as 'very unhealthy.'
According to data from international air quality monitoring company IQAir, recorded at 8:58 am on Friday (February 21), Dhaka's air remains highly polluted.
Following Dhaka, Karachi, Pakistan ranks second with a score of 199, while Kampala, Uganda (180), Kathmandu, Nepal (178), and Delhi, India (177) hold the third, fourth, and fifth spots, respectively.
IQAir reports that air quality in these cities falls within the 'unhealthy' category today.
The Switzerland-based company provides real-time assessments of air pollution levels. As per its standards:
An AQI score of 0-50 indicates good air quality.
- 51-100 is considered moderate.
- 101-150 is unhealthy for sensitive groups.
- 151-200 is classified as unhealthy.
- 201-300 is deemed very unhealthy.
- Above 301 is regarded as hazardous.
