The deceased has been identified as Md Obaidul, 23, from Gopalpur village. According to local sources, Obaidul, along with 7–8 others, illegally crossed into India around midnight on Saturday. BSF personnel surrounded them, prompting most to flee, but Obaidul and another individual, Mikhail, were trapped.

Shortly afterwards, locals reported hearing gunfire. Obaidul's body was later found on the Indian side of the border, while Mikhail returned home around noon.

Lt. Col. Md Rafiqul Alam, commander of the Maheshpur 58 BGB Battalion, confirmed that the BSF informed them about recovering a body around 8:45 am. However, the BSF has not officially verified whether the deceased is Bangladeshi. The body is currently held at Bagda Police Station in North 24 Parganas, India.

Authorities have advised anyone with claims regarding the deceased's identity to contact the BSF or Bagda Police Station.
