The Mobile Business Community of Bangladesh (MBCB), an organization representing the country's smartphone and gadget traders, announced a nationwide shutdown for tomorrow.
MBCB leaders made the announcement during a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Wednesday.
They stated that all mobile phone retail shops across the country will remain closed.
The shutdown is a protest against the alleged detention of Sumash Tech CEO Abu Sayeed Pias, who also serves as the MBCB secretary, by the Detective Branch (DB) of Bangladesh Police.
Speakers warned that if Pias is not released by the end of today, they will begin a stronger countrywide movement.
A family member of Abu Sayeed Pias confirmed that plainclothes detectives picked up Pias from his residence in Mirpur 1 around 3 am on Tuesday.
His wife, Sumaiya Chowdhury, said members of the Detective Branch took him away and also seized his mobile phone.
