Three major rivers in Bandarban continued to flow above the danger level on Tuesday following persistent heavy rainfall and flash floods originating from upstream hills, leaving over 100 tourists stranded in remote areas of Thanchi upazila.

The swollen waters of the Sangu, Matamuhuri, and Bakkhali rivers have overtopped the danger mark, inundating low-lying parts of Bandarban town and severely disrupting transport.

River communication with Thanchi and Ruma upazilas remains suspended while road networks have been cut off due to landslides blocking multiple stretches connecting the hill town to the upazilas.

More than 100 tourists are still stranded across three remote destinations in Thanchi as hazardous weather conditions continue to hamper transportation and rescue efforts.

In response to the worsening weather and ongoing landslide risks, the district administration has barred travel to all tourist destinations across Bandarban until Friday.

This restriction was formalized in a public notice signed by Deputy Commissioner Md Saniul Ferdous on Monday night.

To minimize casualties, local authorities are using loudspeakers to conduct awareness campaigns in landslide-prone zones.

Deputy Commissioner Ferdous noted that 220 flood and cyclone shelters have been kept fully prepared to house residents if conditions deteriorate while the Health Department has mobilized eight emergency medical teams to deliver medical aid to impacted populations.

The district administration has strongly advised all residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve.
