Two people were killed and 10 were injured in gunfire between local Sultan group and Akkas group over establishing supremacy in the area at Bharara under Pabna sadar upazila. The incident took place on Monday evening.
The deceased are Laskar Kha, son of Goher Kha from Bhaudanga village under Bharara union of the upazila and Malek Sheikh, son of Ahed Ali of the same village.
Pabna sadar circle ASP Ibne Mizan confirmed the incident of clash and told Rtv online, there was feud between Sultan group and Akkas group for long time over establishing supremacy in the area. As a result there was exchange of words between the supporters of two groups which turned into clash at one stage. Laskar Kha and Malek Sheikh were killed following gun shots.
He also said, additional police force was deployed in the area. 10 to 15 people were also hit by bullet. According to different sources the injured were taking treatment in secret places to avoid police trouble.
Bharara union council Chairman Abu Sayeed said, though Akkas group members are supporters of Awami League but Sultan and his followers are not the supporters of Awami League. They are involved with JSD. So the clash should not be termed as a factional clash of Awami League.
