Throat-slit bodies of two women found in Dhanmondi

Miscreants have killed two women by slaughtering on the fourth floor of a building beside Nazrul Institute at Dhanmondi in the capital. The incident took place after 4 pm on Friday at house number 21 of road number 28 in Dhanmondi residential area.

The deceased were not identified but it was known that one was owner of the flat and another was the housemaid.

Sub Inspector of Dhanmondi police station Enamul Haque confirmed the matter to Rtv online and said, we went to the spot after getting the information from the local inhabitants. We can primarily assume that after 4 pm the two women were slaughtered using a knife. Nobody was detained in this connection so far.

Two RAB members wounded in gun attack at Rohingya camp
Two members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were injured in a gun attack by Rohingya drug peddlers during an anti-narcotic drive at Noyapara Rohingya camp in Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Monday afternoon. The injured are RAB sepoy Imran and Corporal Shahab Uddin of RAB-15 Crime Prevention Company (CPC). Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shah Alam, in-charge of RAB-15 CPC-2 Hoaikyang Camp, said a team of the elite force conducted a drive at the den of drug peddlers in Muchni Tower area in the afternoon. However, Rohingya terrorists opened fire on them, leaving the two members injured, he said. The injured were first taken to private clinic Marine City and later shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for better treatment. Dr Farhad Hossain said the bullet-hit RAB men were taken to their clinic around 5pm. “They suffered bullet wounds to the back of their waists,” he said. Sources at the Rohingya camp said the RAB team conducted the drive while Yaba tablets were being sold. The gun attack took place when they arrested a Rohingya drug dealer, Anwar Selim, 32. The Rohingya drug pushers fled after firing five rounds of bullets, they said. Source: UNB AH

RNPP housing graft: 13 govt officials held
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday arrested 13 government officials, including former Pabna Public Works Department executive engineer Masudul Alam, for their suspected involvement in graft while purchasing furniture and other household items for Green City housing project under Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) Project. A team of the ACC arrested them from Dhaka, said ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya. The other officials are- deputy assistant engineers Md Jahidul Kabir, Md Shafiqul Islam, Suman Kumar Nandi, Mohammad Abu Sayed, Md Rowshan Ali, deputy divisional engineers- Mohammad Mostafa Kamal, Ahmed Sajjad Khan, Mohammad Tahajjud Hossain, assistant engineers Md Tarek Khan, Md Aminul Islam and contractors Asif Hossain and Shahadat Hossain. A total of four cases were filed in connection with the graft. According to reports, each pillow was shown to have cost Tk 5,957 and Tk 760 was shown as the lifting charge for each pillow while an electric stove was shown to have been bought for Tk 7,747 with an additional lifting charge of Tk 6,650. The purchase price of an electric kettle was reportedly Tk 5,313 while its lifting cost was Tk 2,945. Similarly, a room-cleaning machine, purchased at Tk 12,018, was lifted spending Tk 6,650. Saikat put on 4-day remand in Rumpa murder case
A court in Dhaka on Sunday placed Abdur Rahman Saikat, who was detained on Saturday night over the mysterious death of Stamford University student Rubaiyat Sharmin Rumpa, on a 4-day remand. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid passed the order when Investigation Officer of the case and also Inspector of Detective Branch of police Shah Md Akteruzzaman produced him before the court seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation. The court also rejected a bail petition filed by Saikat’s lawyer. On Saturday, detectives detained Saikat for interrogation over the death of Rumpa, who was found dead in an alley under mysterious circumstances. Later, Saikat was shown arrested. The body of Rumpa, 22, a second-year English student of Siddheswari branch of the private university, was recovered from an alley of the area on Wednesday night. Police sent her body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue as an unidentified one. Later, her family members identified the body on Thursday evening. On Thursday morning, police filed a murder case with Ramna Police Station in this connection. Claiming that Rumpa, daughter of police Inspector Rokan Uddin, was murdered, her family members and fellows demanded arrest of the perpetrators. Source: UNB AH

Nusrat murder: 4 convicts challenge death penalty
Four death-row convicts filed petitions with the High Court on Monday challenging the lower court verdict against them in the sensational Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case. Principal of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa SM Sirajuddoula, Umme Sultana Popy, Nur Uddin and Javed Hossain alias Shakhawat Hossain moved the High Court against their convictions, said defense lawyer Jamiul Haque Faisal. The death reference of the Nusrat murder case reached the High Court on October 29. On October 24, 16 people, including the four, were given death penalty for their roles in murdering the madrasa student. The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Feni also fined each of them Tk 1 lakh. The other convicts are Awami League ex-Sonagazi upazila unit president Ruhul Amin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Imran Hossain Mamun, Hafez Abdul Quader, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Councillor Maksud Alam alias Moksud, Kamrunnahar Moni, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Zobair, Mohiuddin Shakil, Mohammad Shamim, Abdur Rahim Sharif and Absar Uddin. Nusrat was set on fire on April 6 last on the rooftop of the educational institution, allegedly by people loyal to Sirajuddoula whom she had accused of sexually harassing her. She succumbed to her injuries four days later at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. A case was filed with Sonagazi Police Station on April 8. Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTU) and Additional Commissioner of police Monirul Islam said, so far we know there is no cap for the international militant organization Islamic State (IS). They did not make any cap from the birth of IS to till at present. We will analyze the matter whether they have any cap or not. He said these to the newsmen while deliver his reaction in a post-verdict press conference at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media center in the capital on Wednesday. Monirul Islam said, it will be investigated whether such cap came in the court room due to negligence of somebody. He said, the terrorists have got a message through this verdict. Nobody would dare to commit such crime in future. Earlier, at around 12 pm Judge of Dhaka Anti Terrorism Special Tribunal Md. Mojibur Rahman awarded death penalty for seven accused in connection with Holey Artisan militant attack case. After delivering the verdict when the convicts were being taken to the prison van two militants were seen wearing caps with logo of Islamic State. AH
