The country's overall inflation rate dropped in February on a point-to-point basis, reaching 9.32%—the lowest in the past 22 months.
According to updated Consumer Price Index (CPI) data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Thursday (March 6), inflation saw a decline compared to previous months.
In January, the inflation rate stood at 9.94%. Additionally, February's inflation was lower than the 9.67% recorded in February 2024. The last time inflation was this low was in April 2023, when it was 9.24%.
BBS reported that food inflation in February dropped to 9.24% from 10.72% in January. However, non-food inflation saw a slight increase, rising to 9.38% in February from 9.32% in January.
The data indicates that food prices fell in January, particularly for items such as rice, lentils, oil, salt, fish, meat, vegetables, spices, and tobacco products.
BBS attributes the decline in food inflation to an increased supply of winter-season products.
