To accommodate massive customer demand ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, all scheduled banks across the country will remain open this Saturday and Sunday, maintaining regular banking operations and standard transaction hours.
Although Saturday is typically observed as a weekly holiday, Bangladesh Bank recently issued a circular mandating weekend operations for both public and private banks.
The decision ensures citizens can easily complete crucial financial transactions before the extended festival break. Standard operations will carry over into Sunday as well.
Following this final pre-Eid push, all scheduled banks nationwide will enter a seven-day consecutive closure from May 25 to May 31.
Eid-ul-Azha is scheduled to be celebrated in Bangladesh on May 28.
The Ministry of Public Administration has aligned with this timeline, issuing a notification declaring holidays for government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private institutions during the same seven-day window.
As part of this sweeping adjustment, the usual Saturday weekly holiday was cancelled.
To protect the interests of the workforce, Bangladesh Bank has also ordered specific commercial bank branches located within industrial zones to remain operational on May 25 and 26.
These localized exceptions are aimed directly at facilitating the seamless disbursement of wages, festival bonuses and other outstanding allowances to workers in the readymade garment (RMG) sector.
Additionally, these industrial branches will support ongoing import and export-related banking activities.
According to the central bank's circular, these designated industrial branches will operate from 10 am to 3 pm, with customer transaction services closing slightly earlier at 1 pm.
