The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has implemented another reduction in domestic gold prices, slashing the rate of 22-carat gold by BDT 2,216 per bhori to set the new price at BDT 228,556, inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT).
In an official notification issued on Tuesday, BAJUS stated that the recalibrated rates became effective at 10 am on the same day. According to the release, the downward price adjustment follows a decrease in the cost of pure gold within the local market.
Under the revised structure, 22-carat gold is priced at BDT 228,556 per bhori (11.664 grams), while 21-carat gold stands at BDT 218,292, 18-carat gold at BDT 187,440, and traditional-method gold at BDT 153,148 per bhori, all inclusive of VAT.
BAJUS highlighted that the newly fixed rates will remain operative across all jewelry outlets nationwide until further instruction.
The association noted that labor or making charges will fluctuate depending on individual ornament craftsmanship and design complexity.
Since VAT is integrated directly into the final retail selling prices of gold and silver jewelry, merchants are strictly prohibited from assessing VAT as a separate charge to consumers.
Furthermore, the trade organization confirmed that its established guidelines concerning the exchange and buyback of ornaments—which exclude applicable VAT, labor charges, and gemstone costs—will continue to apply without alteration.
The latest rate reduction comes shortly after a previous adjustment on September 28, when BAJUS trimmed the price of 22-carat gold by BDT 2,158 per bhori to BDT 230,772, including VAT.
With this latest update, local gold bullion prices have undergone 119 revisions so far this year, comprising 58 upward revisions, 60 reductions, and one VAT-specific recalibration.
Parallel to the gold market update, BAJUS also marked down silver prices by BDT 175 per bhori, fixing the rate of 22-carat silver at BDT 4,316, inclusive of VAT.
Under the updated silver schedule, 21-carat silver now costs BDT 4,141 per bhori, 18-carat silver is set at BDT 3,558, and traditional-method silver stands at BDT 2,683.
Domestic silver bullion rates have been adjusted 73 times so far this year, recording 36 price hikes and 37 reductions.
