Ramoji Rao, founder of 'Ramoji Film City' passed away

Ramoji Rao, founder of world's largest cinema set Ramoji Film City and ETV Network, passed away.

He died in the early hours of Saturday (June 8) while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad, India. He was 87 years old at the time of his death. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed grief over Ramoji's death.

According to Indian media reports, Ramoji was admitted to the hospital on Friday (June 7) afternoon with high blood pressure and breathing problems. He was being treated there. At one stage Ramoji's physical condition deteriorated and he died around 5:30 am on Saturday.

Ramoji had been suffering from multiple health problems for several days before being admitted to the hospital.
According to sources, preparations underway to take Ramoji Rao's body to his residence, Ramoji Film City where his family, relatives and friends will be present to pay their last respects to Ramoji.

Expressing grief over Ramoji's death, Narendra Modi wrote, 'Death of Sri Ramoji Rao is very sad news. He had a visionary personality who revolutionized Indian media. His prolific contribution has left a lasting impression on the world of journalism and film.'

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote, 'Saddened by Ramoji Rao's death. Ramoji Rao's Telugu and all regional cultural ties bear the mark. I have personal memories with him. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and followers.'

Ramoji Rao was a renowned Indian film producer and the head of the production company Usha Kiran Movies. He won the National Film Award and two Filmfare Awards.
