Indian High Commission Hosts Nazrul Shyama Sangeet Evening in Dhaka
The High Commission of India in Dhaka, through the Indira Gandhi Cultural Center (IGCC), hosted an enchanting evening dedicated to Kazi Nazrul Islam’s Shyama Sangeet on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the Indian Cultural Center in Dhaka.
Nazrul, the national poet of Bangladesh, holds a cherished place in the hearts of both Bangladeshis and Indians. His body of work includes over a hundred devotional songs dedicated to the Goddess Kali, known as Shyama Sangeet.
Renowned artists Tito Munshi, Mridula Samadder, and Bijon Chandra Mistry performed selected pieces from Nazrul’s Shyama Sangeet, captivating the audience with their soulful renditions. In his remarks, Shri Pranay Verma, the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, emphasized that Nazrul’s works serve as a shared cultural heritage between India and Bangladesh, fostering deeper cultural and people-to-people ties.
The event saw the presence of prominent figures from Bangladesh’s art and cultural scene, celebrating this significant moment of cross-cultural unity.
