The most expensive reality show in history has over a thousand contestants a grand prize of over $5 million and a private island.
Squid Game became a cultural phenomenon when it was released on Netflix in 2021. The Korean thriller was based on a fictitious game show that pitted financially struggling people in deadly situations for the entertainment of the elite. While Squid Game was a comment on commercialism and capitalism, it ironically spawned real-life game shows along the same lines. Of them, one emerged as a $100-million behemoth, becoming the most expensive reality television show in history.
The most expensive reality show ever
YouTuber Mr Beast took his viral challenges into the streaming world with his first reality TV game show, Beast Games. Made along the same lines as the challenges from Squid Game, Beast Games is the biggest reality show in the world. As per The Business Insider, the YouTuber invested $100 million of his own money to produce the massive show. This cost does not include the prize money of $5 million, along with a Lamborghini and a private island. Mr Beast's show is head and shoulders clear of other reality TV shows, such as WMAC Masters, which cost $11 million to make (back in 1995). In fact, Beast Games' budget even exceeds many of the biggest television series globally, including Squid Game ($22 million), Game of Thrones ($50 million), and The Last of Us ($90-100 million).
How Beast Games broke 50 world records
Beast Games has been a record-breaking TV show in more ways than one. Not only does it hold the record for being the most expensive reality TV show ever, but it is also the game show with the highest prize money (above $5 million). In a promo for the show, the creator revealed some of the other records the show had broken and emphasised that the Guinness Book of World Records recognised a total of 50 records that the show had broken.
About Beast Games
Beast Games is a competition series that began streaming on Amazon Prime Video on December 19. Created by Jimmy Donaldson, aka Mr Beast, the show gives contestants a chance to win huge amounts of money through challenges. The difference from Squid Game is that there is no threat of death here. In each episode, one member is offered an opportunity to quit the show on the spot and get given $80,000, but as a consequence, the rest of their row is eliminated, too. The first season comprises ten episodes, which will drop weekly.

Paramount’s “Gladiator II” roared into theaters with a total of $111.2 million, earning $30.7 million over the weekend. The combined buzz even coined a catchy nickname—“Glicked”—reminiscent of the 2023 “Barbenheimer” phenomenon.
Blockbuster Domination and Long-Term Impact
While “Red One” and “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” rounded out the weekend’s top five with modest earnings, the spotlight remained on the blockbuster trio. With no significant competitors in sight, these films are expected to dominate through December.
Interactive “Wicked” showings begin December 25, while “Moana 2” and “Gladiator II” will continue pulling in crowds until the arrival of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” and “Mufasa: The Lion King” on December 20.

Actor Park Min Jae Passes Away
Famous South Korean actor Park Min Jae has tragically passed away at the age of 32.
According to reports on December 2, Park Min Jae passed away on November 29, reportedly due to cardiac arrest while traveling in China. He had no other known medical conditions.
The funeral will be held at the Ewha Seoul Hospital funeral hall, with the service scheduled for December 4.
His younger sibling shared the news on Instagram, writing, "Our beloved brother has gone to rest peacefully. We hope as many people as possible can come to see him off."

K-pop Girl Group SIGNATURE Disbands After Four Years
In a surprising turn of events, K-pop girl group SIGNATURE has officially disbanded after four years of activity. The group’s agency, C9 Entertainment, confirmed the news yesterday.
According to an official statement, after extensive discussions, the decision was made to disband the group. All seven members of SIGNATURE have had their contracts terminated, and the group’s activities ceased as of last Saturday.
Over the course of their four-year journey, SIGNATURE released five EPs and two singles, with their latest album Sweet but Salty hitting the shelves in June this year. Member Jeon also earned praise for her performance at the Waterbomb Festival in July.
C9 Entertainment expressed regret over the abrupt nature of the announcement, requesting fans' understanding and support during this difficult time.

"Milon, I'm doing so much development work, yet no one loves me. Why, Milon?"
To which the response comes,

Actress Detained at Airport with Gold Worth Tk 6.9 Million
Gold weighing 733 grams, valued at approximately Tk 6.9 million was recovered from two passengers including an actress at Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport.
The two passengers were detained on Saturday (December 7) at around 9:50 am by the NSI Chattogram Airport team and customs intelligence officers.
The detained individuals are Anamika Juthi, a drama actress from Mirpur, Dhaka, and Mohammad Raihan Iqbal from Raozan, Chattogram. The information was confirmed by Shah Amanat International Airport's Public Relations Officer, Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil.
He stated that based on confidential information, a search was conducted, leading to the discovery of pure gold items resembling bracelets, chains, and white gold chains. The market value of the seized gold is Tk 6.896 million. Anamika Juthi had concealed the bracelets on her wrists using scotch tape and cleverly hid the chains around her neck. Additionally, the gold jewelry was carried in their handbags.
Airport sources reported that the two passengers arrived at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram at 9:35 am on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG-148 flight (Dubai-Chattogram-Dhaka) from Dubai. However, as they were passengers bound for Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, aviation regulations required their transfer to the airport team there via the same flight.
