Pori Moni Surrenders and Secures Bail

Pori Moni was granted bail on Monday (January 27) after surrendering to the court in connection with an arrest warrant issued against her in a murder attempt case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmood. The court approved her bail upon her plea.
Advocate Nilanjana Rifat Suravi represented Pori Moni in the hearing at the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka, presided over by Md. Zunaid, who approved the bail request after the hearing.
Earlier, the court had ordered the framing of charges against Pori Moni in this case and issued an arrest warrant.
On July 6, 2021, businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmood, president of the Boat Club, filed a case against Pori Moni and two others with the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka. Lawyer Sohel had sought an arrest warrant against her, which the court granted. Pori Moni’s lawyer, Suravi, requested additional time, but the court denied the plea, set the charges, and scheduled the next hearing for March 20.
The allegations against Pori Moni claim that she, along with her associates Fatema Tuz Zannat Bani and Junaid Bogdadi Jimi (aka Jim), frequented elite clubs, consumed alcohol, and left without paying. When confronted for payment, Pori Moni allegedly threatened the establishments with harassment through her police contacts.
The case details state that on June 9, 2021, after midnight, Pori Moni and her associates entered the Boat Club. At that time, Nasir Uddin Mahmood and his associate Shah Shahidul Alam were leaving the club. Pori Moni reportedly called them back, requested they sit with her, and later, through suggestive gestures, tried to attract Nasir Uddin. She allegedly pressured him to parcel a bottle of Blue Label whiskey for free. When Nasir refused, she verbally abused him.
The altercation escalated when Pori Moni allegedly threw a serving glass and a mobile phone at Nasir, injuring his head and chest.
Five days after the incident, on June 14, 2021, Pori Moni filed a counter-case against Nasir Uddin, Tuhin Siddiqui Omi, and four unidentified individuals at Savar Police Station, accusing them of attempted rape and murder. However, police investigations found no evidence to support her allegations.

Actress Anjana Rahman Passes Away at 59
Renowned actress Anjana Rahman, who won the prestigious National Film Award, passed away on January 4 while receiving treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Misha Sawdagar, president of the Artists' Association, confirmed her death.
Anjana had been in a coma for 10 days, undergoing treatment in an ICU at a private hospital in Dhaka. Despite extensive medical care, her condition continued to worsen. She was transferred to BSMMU on the night of January 1, after being ill for 15 days. Initially, she showed symptoms of fever and tremors, and it was later discovered that she had developed a blood infection. Following the doctor's advice, she was promptly hospitalized.
Anjana Rahman was a beloved figure in Bangladeshi cinema and gained international recognition for her roles in joint productions and foreign films.
Born on June 27, 1965, Anjana made her acting debut with the film "Dasyu Bonhur", which marked the beginning of her remarkable career. Over the years, she appeared in more than 300 films, earning National Film Awards twice for her outstanding performances in 'Parineeta' and 'Gangchill'.

Musfiq R Farhan Hospitalized Due to Illness
Popular television actor Mushfiq R Farhan has been hospitalized after falling ill. Director Dipu Hazra confirmed the news, revealing that Farhan became suddenly unwell on Friday (January 3), while shooting for a drama.
He experienced symptoms of fever and body aches, prompting his immediate admission to a hospital in Uttara.
