Eid is synonymous with joy and celebration, and every year, new films hit theaters to amplify the festive spirit. This year, six films have been released for Eid: Borbad, Dagi, Jongli, Chokkor 302, Antoratma, and Jinn-3. These movies are performing exceptionally well across various cineplexes and single-screen theaters nationwide.
A visit to different cineplexes in Dhaka from the first to the third day of Eid revealed a strong preference for local films over foreign ones.
On Tuesday (April 2), at Bashundhara Cineplex, long queues of eager moviegoers were seen waiting to watch the Eid releases. Fans of stars like Shakib Khan, Afran Nisho, Siam Ahmed, and Mosharraf Karim stood in line for hours to secure their tickets.
Cineplex authorities reported that all the Eid films are receiving an enthusiastic response from audiences. Among them, Borbad and Dagi are generating the most buzz, followed by Jongli. The other films are also performing well.
One of the standout films, Dagi, marks Afran Nisho's return to the big screen after two years. Since its release on Eid day, the film has been running houseful at Cineplexes, with a significant audience turnout. This delighted both the actor and the entire production team.
Just a day after its release, Dagi saw an increase in screenings. Shahriar Shakil, head of Alpha-i, announced that the film originally had 34 shows in multiplexes on Eid day, but within 24 hours, 10 more shows were added due to high demand.
Similarly, Jongli, directed by M Rahim, also saw an increase in screenings. Zahid Hasan Avi, the producer from Tiger Media, confirmed that despite strong demand, Jongli was initially allotted fewer shows in multiplexes. He expressed confusion over this decision, especially since a large billboard was placed at Star Cineplex's Simanto Shambhar branch, but no shows were initially scheduled there.
However, by Tuesday (April 1), two shows were added at that branch—one at 11 am and another at 4 pm. An additional screening was also introduced at Jamuna Blockbuster. The expansion in show numbers and theaters has been a welcome development for the Jungli team.
The producer further shared that while Jungli had a slow start with fewer screenings, by Tuesday, the number of theaters had increased by one, and the total number of shows rose by three. Now, Jungli is being screened in 18 shows across multiple multiplexes nationwide.
These include three shows at Star Cineplex's Panthapath branch, two at the Museum branch, two at the Simanto Shambhar branch, two at the Uttara branch, and three at the Chattogram branch. Additionally, Blockbuster Cinemas and the Lion Cinema are each screening the film three times daily.
Alongside Dagi and Jungli, the number of shows for Borbad has also increased, reflecting the strong audience demand for local films this Eid.
