In a historic moment for both the music industry and the spiritual world, the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, has won his first-ever Grammy Award at the age of 90.

The Tibetan spiritual leader was honored in the Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording category for his evocative spoken-word album, Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The award was accepted on his behalf by musician Rufus Wainwright, a key collaborator on the project.

The album is a unique tapestry that weaves the Dalai Lama’s teachings on mindfulness, compassion, and the "oneness of humanity" with soundscapes deeply rooted in Hindustani classical traditions.

Since its nomination in late 2025, the project has been praised for bringing ancient wisdom into a modern, accessible format, reaching audiences well beyond traditional spiritual circles.

In a humble response released by his office, the Dalai Lama emphasized that the win was not a personal achievement but a victory for global harmony.

"I receive this recognition with gratitude and humility," he stated. "Peace, compassion, and understanding the oneness of humanity are essential for the collective well-being of all eight billion human beings. I hope this Grammy helps spread these messages more widely."

This Grammy adds a new dimension to a storied legacy of international honors. Having received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, the Templeton Prize in 2012, and the US Liberty Medal, the Dalai Lama continues to be recognized as a preeminent moral authority.

His win underscores his enduring ability to influence global culture, reinforcing his lifelong advocacy for nonviolence and universal responsibility through a new, sonic medium.
