Earthquake is a terrible natural disaster. It is not possible to forecast about earthquake. A locality can be destroyed if it occurred in particular place. So the casualties are more in the sudden earthquake than the other natural calamities. The amount of force which has been accumulated in the core of earth can cause earthquake over 8 magnitudes at any time in Bangladesh. Due to geographical location the populated cities like Chittagong, Sylhet and Mymensingh including capital Dhaka are at greater risk of earthquake.

Professor Dr. ASM Maqsud Kamal of Earth and Environmental Science department of Dhaka University said, force has been created in the core of earth to originate 8 magnitudes earthquake in hilly border areas and Sylhet region. Major disaster could be occurred if earthquake hit the populated cities like Sylhet, Chittagong, Dhaka and Mymensingh.

Researchers are saying, Bangladesh is an earthquake prone area due to its geographical location. Bangladesh’s position is on the three moveable connecting plates named Indian, European and Burmese. Of these the force which has been created in the core of earth along with the border areas of Chittagong Hill Tracts and Sylhet is sufficient for causing major earthquake.

Besides, after observing the attitudes of recent earthquakes in Bangladesh the researchers said, moderate types of earthquakes are occurring in the country. In last several years moderate earthquake occurred in different areas like Manikganj, Srimongol, Chittagong, Maheshkhali and Rangamati. Experts are concerned over major scale earthquake in the country by seeing the symptoms.
