Ebola virus infections are increasing at an alarming rate in the Central African nation of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The number of infections has risen to 3,075, resulting in 1,354 deaths.

This concerning information was revealed in the latest report released by the Congolese government on Saturday, July 25.

In a statement, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) reported that this recent outbreak is one of the fastest-growing Ebola epidemics in the continent's history.

According to World Health Organization (WHO) data, the Congolese government officially declared the new Ebola outbreak on May 15, following the disease's spread largely undetected by authorities for an extended period.

Physicians noted that this infection is primarily caused by the rare "Bundibugyo" species of the Ebola virus. To date, no approved vaccine or effective medication has been developed specifically for this strain.

However, international researchers have already begun clinical trials on humans to test new treatments aimed at curbing the spread and discovering a cure.

Meanwhile, efforts to control the disease in Congo have faced severe challenges from the outset.

In addition to a critical shortage of international funding, the situation has been compounded by successive attacks from armed groups in the turbulent and conflict-ridden eastern region of the country.

Due to the ongoing conflict, healthcare workers are unable to deliver uninterrupted medical services to the affected areas.
