A group of United Nations experts called on Monday for all member states to recognize Palestine as a state to ensure peace in the Middle East. The UN panel of experts made the call a week after Spain, Ireland and Norway recognized Palestine.

The UN Special Envoy for Human Rights in the Palestinian Territory, Francesca Albanese, is also part of this high-level UN delegation.

In a statement on Monday (June 3), experts said that the fighting for their freedom and independence for decades will further accelerate for this recognition.

In the statement, the experts further said that the prerequisites for the establishment of peace in Palestine and the entire Middle East are the cessation of military operations in Rafah and the declaration of a cease-fire in Gaza soon; And the two-state solution is the only and internationally accepted way out of the insecurity and violence that Palestine and Israel have been facing for generations.

Experts also said that recognizing Palestine as a state is the first step in the two-state solution.

Officials at Israel's UN mission were contacted by Reuters for comment on the UN expert panel's statement, but they declined to comment.

Meanwhile, the officials of Spain, Ireland and Norway, which recently recognized Palestine, said that these three countries will increase the level of efforts for a cease-fire in Gaza from now on.

Besides, they said, they will also work for the European Union (EU), an alliance of European countries, to recognize Palestine as a state.
