The overall flood situation in Sunamganj has further worsened due to the increase in the water from the mountain streams coming down from India. New areas of the district are getting flooded.

On Wednesday (June 19), the water level in the river has decreased, but the water in the locality is still unchanged. Sunamganj has started raining again since early night and water has started to enter the city again due to mountain landslides. Many people have taken shelter in various shelters as water has started entering various areas of Sunamganj city. The low-lying areas of the city including Natunpara, Hajipara, Mynar point, Hachannagar are getting flooded again.

Even though the whole district is affected by flood, Sadar, Chhatak, Dowarabazar and Biswambharpur, upazilas are more affected. All unions and municipalities of Chhatak Upazila are flooded. The entire city is under flood water. As the water rose in Sadar Upazila, water rose again in many houses at night. Water is entering people's houses in different areas of Sunamganj town.

According to BWDB sources, the water of Surma river was 40 cm above the danger level at 9 am today at Sholghar point of Sunamganj town. The water of Surma river is flowing over 144 cm in Chhatak upazila headquarters. Sunamganj has received 100 millimeters of rain in the last 24 hours (Tuesday 9 am to Wednesday 9 am). However, although there is less rain here, it is raining more in Cherrapunji, upstream of Sunamganj in India. Due to which a large amount of hill slopes are coming down from the upstream in Sunamganj.
