Israel is preparing a large-scale attack in response to Iran’s recent missile strikes, according to an unnamed government official quoted by Israel's state-run TV channel Kan 11 on Monday, October 21.

The official said that Israel is gearing up for a significant strike on Iran and strengthening the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to counter any potential Iranian assault. However, the official did not specify the exact targets. Israeli media reports suggest that oil fields or nuclear facilities in Iran could be potential targets.

On October 1, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched around 180 ballistic missiles at Israel overnight. Two days later, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned during a press conference in Qatar that such attacks would continue if Israel did not halt military operations in Gaza and Lebanon.

Following the missile attack, Israel has been consulting closely with the U.S. and other allies regarding security and the broader Middle East situation. On October 19, the U.S. deployed its advanced Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system in Israel to bolster air defenses.

Meanwhile, Tehran has issued a stern warning, stating that Israel will face severe consequences if it attacks Iranian territory.

Tensions between Iran and Israel have reached new heights following Israel’s operations in Gaza and Lebanon. For decades, Iran has provided financial and military support to armed groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad—groups with the stated aim of eliminating Israel.

So far, Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza has claimed over 42,600 Palestinian lives, most of them women and children, with at least 99,800 more injured.
