Israeli Airstrikes Kill 100 in Two Gaza Cities
The death toll in Gaza continues to climb. While Israel has agreed to a ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon, its aggression in the besieged Gaza Strip has only intensified. From Wednesday evening to Thursday evening, Israeli forces conducted extensive airstrikes on the northern Gaza cities of Beit Lahia and Jabalia, killing at least 100 people.
According to a Friday report by Anadolu Agency, Mahmud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza's Civil Defense Department, confirmed that 75 of the victims were from Beit Lahia, while 25 were from Jabalia and surrounding areas.
Notably, Israel launched a devastating assault on Gaza on August 7 last year, under the pretext of retaliating against Hamas. Despite mounting international pressure, the attacks have not ceased. While the intensity of operations briefly waned, Israel’s military ramped up its northern Gaza offensive on October 5. Since then, Israeli ground and air assaults have claimed the lives of at least 2,700 Palestinians and injured over 10,000.
Northern Gaza, home to a significant portion of the strip's population, has been cut off from food, medicine, and fuel since the operation began. A humanitarian disaster is now unfolding in the region.
Basal added that many of the victims in the past 24 hours were civilians who had ventured outside in search of food and water. He said, "Israel has blocked aid to northern Gaza for nearly two months, creating famine-like conditions. Residents face genocide, food shortages, and relentless attacks."
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the latest airstrikes targeted Hamas based on intelligence suggesting militant regrouping in northern Gaza.
Since August 7, 2023, the ongoing blockade and violence in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 44,400 Palestinians and injuries to over 100,000, according to reports.
The United Nations and international bodies have repeatedly urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cease military operations in Gaza. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has also filed a genocide case against Israel.
However, Netanyahu has made it clear that Israeli forces will continue their operations in Gaza until Hamas is completely neutralized and hostages are freed.
