Despite an agreed-upon ceasefire, Israel has launched relentless airstrikes across Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan. So far, 342 Palestinians have lost their lives, with the majority being children. Pregnant women were also among the victims, as Israeli forces, reportedly acting on advice from former U.S. President Donald Trump, continued their attacks.
According to a report by Al Jazeera on Tuesday (March 18), this marks the largest Israeli assault on Gaza since the ceasefire agreement with Hamas on January 19 of this year.
The report states that airstrikes targeted several areas, including northern Gaza, Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, Khan Yunis, and Jabalia. The bombings struck homes, residential buildings, schools sheltering displaced families, and refugee tents, resulting in significant casualties, including many women and children.
Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations issued a stern warning, stating, "We will show no mercy to our enemies. Let me be clear—Israel will not stop until all our hostages are returned."
Hamas, in response, accused Israel of unilaterally violating the ceasefire agreement. The group claims that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right government deliberately undermined the truce, putting the fate of Israeli hostages in Gaza at serious risk.
Hamas has also urged people in Arab and Muslim nations, along with human rights advocates worldwide, to take to the streets in protest against Israel’s ongoing aggression in Gaza.
Since Hamas's unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military has carried out continuous air and ground assaults on Gaza. The death toll from Israeli strikes has now reached nearly 50,000, with over 100,000 others injured.
In addition to the heavy loss of life, Israeli attacks have destroyed or severely damaged thousands of structures, including hospitals, schools, refugee camps, mosques, and churches. Millions of Gazans have been displaced, forced to flee their homes amid the relentless bombardment.
