After a cold reception at the UN General Assembly, Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu is visiting Trump at the White House to discuss ending the nearly two-year-long war in Gaza.
The Israeli army's campaign to defeat Hamas continues, despite mounting international pressure over the humanitarian situation in the enclave.
The American President intends to present a 21-point plan to end the war, which is nearing its two-year mark.
Trump teased a possible breakthrough on his Truth Social platform: "ALL ARE ON BOARD FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL, FIRST TIME EVER. WE WILL GET IT DONE!!!"
This plan reportedly includes a ceasefire, release of the remaining hostages being held by Hamas and a withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Strip.
As per the plan, Hamas will not play a part in the future administration of the Gaza Strip, and Israel will also not be allowed to annex the region.
But Netanyahu has shown few signs that he is willing to agree to such terms. On Friday, the leader vowed to "finish the job" against Hamas in his address to the UN in New York After dozens of delegates walked out on the leader's speech, Netanyahu promised to block the formation of a formal Palestinian state.
A senior Israeli official told Reuters that it was "too early to tell" if Israel would agree to Trump's peace plan.
However, on Sunday, the Israeli leader said he would consider giving safe passage to Hamas leaders to leave Gaza abroad under certain conditions. Netanyahu also faces mounting pressure from war-weary Israelis and the hostages' families.
This will be Netanyahu's fourth visit to the White House since Trump's return to power in January.
