Russia has launched a massive aerial assault targeting power generation facilities across five regions of Ukraine.

According to a report by AFP, Ukrainian officials stated that this is the largest attack on the country’s energy infrastructure since the full-scale war began nearly four years ago.

In a Telegram post on Tuesday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Russian forces deployed at least 450 kamikaze drones and 70 missiles of various ranges during the onslaught on Monday.

Retaliation for NATO Visit?
The timing of the strike is significant, as it coincided with a visit to Kyiv by NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, who was in the capital to reaffirm support for Ukraine. Analysts suggest the intensity of the bombardment was a direct response to the NATO chief's presence.

DTEK, Ukraine's largest private energy provider, issued a statement calling it the "most significant aggression" against the power grid this year. The company also confirmed that 10 of its employees were injured during the strikes.

Winter as a Weapon
The attack comes during a period of extreme cold, with President Zelenskyy highlighting the humanitarian crisis caused by the outages.

Representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States are currently meeting in the UAE capital to discuss potential paths toward ending the conflict.
