Oil Tanker Sinks Off Kuwaiti Coast Following Drone Strike

An oil tanker has sunk off the coast of Kuwait after exploding during a drone attack.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed in a statement on Wednesday (March 4) that the vessel was struck late at night.

Oil is currently leaking from the ship into the sea, sparking significant concerns over potential environmental devastation. However, all crew members have been reported safe.

According to the UKMTO, the explosion was directly caused by a drone strike.

Located on the shores of the Persian Gulf, Kuwait shares a maritime border with Iran.

Since the escalation of the Iran-Israel-U.S. conflict on February 28, attacks on American allies in the Middle East have been on the rise.

Kuwait remains a vital strategic ally for the United States and hosts three major U.S. military bases.

Under the administration of President Donald Trump, the U.S. has maintained a heavy security presence in the region to counter such threats.
