'Not a Single Liter of Oil Will Pass Through Hormuz': Iran Warns

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, oil has emerged as a strategic weapon. Iran has issued a stern warning that it will block the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most critical maritime chokepoint, vowing that "not a single liter of oil" will be allowed to reach the global market.

Tehran claims that if the current situation persists, the price of crude oil could skyrocket past $200 per barrel.

Redefining 'Legitimate Targets'
The threat comes as a direct response to the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel.

A spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters announced that any vessel linked to the U.S., Israel, or their allies will now be considered a "legitimate target."

"Oil prices cannot be kept artificially low," the spokesperson said in a statement. "The stability of the oil market depends on regional security, and the U.S. and its allies are solely responsible for the instability in this region."

Global Energy Markets in Turmoil
The conflict, which ignited on February 28, shows no signs of de-escalation.

Following a series of strikes by the U.S. and Israel this week, Iran responded with drone and missile attacks across the Middle East, causing extreme volatility in energy prices.

The Strait of Hormuz is the artery of the global energy trade, with approximately one-fifth of the world's oil supply passing through its waters.

Reports surfaced on Wednesday, March 11, of attacks on three vessels near the coast of Oman, including a Thai-flagged cargo ship.

International Response
Despite the threats, U.S. President Donald Trump urged maritime operators to maintain their routes.

"The ships should go," President Trump stated. "Security will be ensured there very quickly."

Meanwhile, the global community is scrambling to mitigate the fallout:

IEA Emergency Measures: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has decided to release 400 million barrels of oil from the emergency reserves of its 32 member countries. Executive Director Fatih Birol called it a "major step," but warned that supply cannot normalize until the Strait is reopened.

National Reserves: Germany, Austria, and Japan have announced the release of national stockpiles. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi noted that 70% of Japan's oil arrives via Hormuz, confirming they will begin releasing reserves this coming Monday.

Humanitarian Concerns: UN Humanitarian Chief Tom Fletcher warned that the blockade is obstructing aid to Sub-Saharan Africa and called for "special exemptions" for humanitarian vessels.

Professor Christian Bueger of the University of Copenhagen warned that if the Strait is not cleared soon, Europe faces a "catastrophic energy crisis."
