Walmart heiress Christy Walton has reportedly intensified her public opposition to the Trump administration by taking out a full-page advertisement in Sunday’s New York Times calling for a massive reduction in immigrant detentions.
The ad specifically urges US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release the estimated 70% of detainees currently being held without a criminal record.
The advertisement begins by reprinting the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution, which protects against unlawful searches and seizures.
According to digital versions of the ad, the call to action is based on a November 2025 study by the Cato Institute.
That report found that 73% of individuals in ICE custody since October 2025 had no previous criminal convictions, while only 8% had been convicted of violent or property crimes.
The ad demands that the government "free the 70%" and ensure due process for those remaining in custody.
With an estimated net worth of USD 22.9 billion, Walton has transitioned from a private life in Wyoming to becoming a prominent donor for anti-Trump causes.
Her political activity includes hosting major fundraisers for Democratic candidates and donating over USD 500,000 to conservative anti-Trump PACs since 2020.
This latest move follows her 2025 campaign supporting the “No Kings” protest movement.
While the ad appeared in several smaller newspapers over the weekend in addition to the New York Times, a representative for Walton has not yet officially commented.
The text of the ad notes that the views expressed are "solely those of Christy Walton" and does not appear to be linked to a broader organizational protest.
