A high-level Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, arrived in the Pakistani capital on Friday night (April 24) to engage in critical peace negotiations.

According to Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, as reported by Dawn, Araghchi was received at the airport by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, alongside Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir and other senior officials.

During the visit, Araghchi is scheduled to hold meetings with Pakistan's top leadership to discuss recent regional developments and ongoing efforts to maintain regional peace and stability.

US Envoys Expected in Pakistan
In a parallel diplomatic move, the White House has announced that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Advisor Jared Kushner are scheduled to visit Pakistan today, Saturday (April 25), for further discussions.

Iran Seeks Regional Coordination
Foreign Minister Araghchi emphasized the importance of the mission via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

The diplomat's itinerary extends beyond Pakistan; amid heightened tensions with the United States, Araghchi is slated to visit Russia and Oman following his talks in Islamabad.

A Bridge to Dialogue
Pakistani officials have indicated that this diplomatic push is a significant step toward potentially resuming direct talks with the United States, aimed at de-escalating the ongoing conflict between the two nations.

Senior government officials confirmed this to Al Jazeera following a series of high-level telephone conversations between Araghchi and Pakistani leadership on Friday.

The visit comes at a logistical crossroads for the two nations, as nearly 3,000 containers remain stranded in Pakistan, prompting Iran to explore alternative strategic options.
