The Israeli military has intercepted the "Global Sumud Flotilla" in international waters, deploying drones, communication-jamming technology, and armed boarding parties to halt the aid convoy.
The flotilla, organized to deliver humanitarian relief to Palestinians in Gaza, was confronted by Israeli naval forces in the middle of the Mediterranean. Both flotilla organizers and Israeli media outlets confirmed the raid on Thursday.
Reports of Armed Confrontation
In a statement released today, the Global Sumud Flotilla mission described a high-tension encounter. "Military speedboats approached our vessels, identifying themselves as 'Israel.'
They pointed lasers and semi-automatic weapons at everyone on board, ordering them to move to the front of the ships and remain on their hands and knees," the statement read.
Organizers took to social media to condemn the action, stating: "Israeli military vessels have illegally surrounded the flotilla in international waters, issuing threats of kidnapping and violence."
Communication Blackout and Seizures
The situation remains critical as contact with the convoy has been largely severed.
Loss of Contact: Organizers reported that communication with 11 vessels has been lost.
Vessels Detained: Israeli media reports claim that at least seven of the ships have been seized and detained by naval forces.
Urgent Appeal: The flotilla leadership has issued an urgent plea for international intervention to ensure the safety of the activists and crew members on board.
This raid marks a significant escalation in the maritime standoff as the international community monitors the safety of those involved in the humanitarian mission.
