Chinese National Rescued Alive From Nepal Tunnel 10 Days After Flood

A Chinese national has been rescued alive after being trapped for 10 days inside a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project in Nepal, according to Nepali Army Spokesperson Rajaram Basnet.

The information was featured in a report by The Kathmandu Post on Saturday (September 5).

The report stated that a joint rescue team—comprising the Nepali Army and foreign rescue personnel—brought the Chinese national, named Luhaitao, out alive from approximately 225 meters inside the tunnel.

His physical condition is currently being evaluated, and search and rescue operations are ongoing within the project area.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Nepali Army confirmed that a joint team of Nepali and foreign rescuers successfully extracted Luhaitao from deep within the hydropower project's tunnel.

In a separate incident, the Armed Police Force rescued 60-year-old Chandika Shrestha from the top floor of a four-story house buried under debris in Betrawati, Nuwakot.

Police reported that a nine-member team led by Armed Police Inspector Suman Kumar Bik conducted the rescue operation in Ward No. 10 of Bidur Municipality.
