Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense issued an emergency alert for the border cities of Khamis Mushait and Abha in the Asir province, following an intensification of the conflict in Yemen.
The measure was implemented due to potential security risks, but was later withdrawn after an overall review of the situation.
According to local authorities on Monday (September 14), the Civil Defense declared the situation safe while advising the public to remain vigilant.
Strict instructions were issued to avoid unnecessary gatherings at incident sites in any unexpected situation, and to refrain from capturing photos or videos for social media.
Border security preparations were triggered by a sudden escalation of military conflict in neighboring Yemen between Houthi armed groups and government forces.
Regional tensions recently spilled over to the Saudi border as the Houthis sought to strengthen their influence in the Red Sea and strategic waters.
Fierce fighting is currently underway between the two sides in Yemen's Taiz, Al-Jawf, and Al-Bayda provinces, alongside continued airstrikes by the Saudi-led military coalition targeting Houthi strongholds.
Civil war erupted in Yemen after Houthi rebels seized control of the capital, Sana'a, in 2014.
Since 2015, a Saudi-led international coalition has intervened militarily to support Yemen's internationally recognized government and counter the Houthis.
