The International Day of Democracy 2026 is set to be commemorated across the nation on Tuesday, mirroring global observances.
To mark the occasion, the government alongside various civic and political entities has drawn up diverse schedules and agendas to observe the day.
In observation of the International Day of Democracy 2026, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres underscored "the importance of bringing together people from across societies to enrich decision making, foster trust and build more peaceful, inclusive and resilient societies."
Furthermore, the United Nations Democracy Fund and the United Nations Office for Partnerships are scheduled to stage a special gathering on Tuesday at the UN Headquarters, aiming to spotlight how deliberative democracy bolsters civic agency and ownership by integrating diverse perspectives into the decision-making framework.
The proceedings will draw upon insights derived from citizens' assemblies worldwide, investigating the ways in which active participation, constructive dialogue, and broad inclusion reinforce public trust while promoting more transparent, responsible, and efficient governance.
Contemporary administrative systems possess the capacity to forge meaningful avenues enabling citizens to shape policies that directly impact their daily existence.
Through open discourse, partnership, and genuine efforts to comprehend divergent viewpoints, it remains entirely achievable to guarantee that every segment of the population is included.
